Chrome 69 Privacy Issues #1315 - Geek News Central

Geek News Central - Tue, 09/25/2018 - 00:18

chrome 69Chrome 69 opens up a quagmire of possible privacy issues without Google really explaining why they are logging users into the browser now by default. As one columnist said trust is not a renewable resource. Our online privacy continues to be whacked away little but little yet nothing is being done to protect consumers and we will soon reach if we have not already a tipping point. I continue to experiment with the new streaming setup and so far minus a few hiccups the system seems to be doing pretty good.

I have some new support initiatives that I explain during the show Amazon Business, Amazon Offers and my health supplement recommendation page which will continue to expand and I will do some videos on how I use my supplements and in what order.

70 New Amazon Alexa Announcements #1314 - Geek News Central

Geek News Central - Fri, 09/21/2018 - 00:36

Today Amazon announced over 70 new Alexa related announcements with a whole stack of new devices and refreshes. You can tell that Amazon Alexa and the entire team there is serious about making these platform stick. The sheer number of devices gives Amazon an amazing head start.

Today’s show is unique I introduced a brand new live show deployment system that had the podcast being simulcast on 6 different locations including Twitter. Next show we will add one more live deployment space and that will be Mixer. So pretty exciting I learned a few things tonight in doing the live show as I need to be patient in letting the show complete before I pull the plug due to the delay across all platforms. I have some new support initiatives that I explain during the show Amazon Business, Amazon Offers and my health supplement recommendation page which will continue to expand and I will do some videos on how I use my supplements and in what order.

This week we prepare for the first ever Presidential Alert unblockable nationwide text message, we examine Chrome's temporary "www" removal reversal, checkout Comodo's somewhat unsavory marketing, discuss a forthcoming solution to BGP hijacking, examine California's forthcoming IoT legislation, deal with the return of Cold Boot attacks, choose not to click on a link that promptly crashes any Safari OS, congratulate Twitter on adding some auditing, check in on the Mirai Botnet's steady evolution, look at the past year's explosion in DDoS number of size, note another new annoyance brought to us by Windows 10... Then we take a look at the state of the quietly evolving web browser extension ecosystem.

Amazon Reviews Removed by Bribe? #1313 - Geek News Central

Geek News Central - Tue, 09/18/2018 - 01:06

Amazon Reviews apparently can be manipulated by a simple bribe. Goes to show you that Amazon is likely not paying their employees enough if a payment from $80 to $2000 can get sales reports, negative reviews removed and a whole bevy of nefarious things. Tonight I cover that and other top stories and lay out some re-involvement I am going to have in the content of the website. It is time my voice was back on the front page of the website along with my writing team. Lots more to come here as I re-inject myself beyond the show recording.

Where is Larry Page #1312 – GNC - Geek News Central

Geek News Central - Fri, 09/14/2018 - 00:14

The big question some are asking is where is Larry Page. He seems to have really gone underground for a long time according to internal sources at Google. While not entirely true he is definitely not as engaged as he once was and in my opinion should the man not be deserving to do what he wants. He has built an empire only second in size to Apple and that’s saying a lot. Additionally, Apple did not have one more thing besides a phone, but they really got my attention of the Apple Watch Gen 4. I am definitely going to see if any of my kids want to buy my Gen 3 so I can upgrade. I really am intrigued by the ECG function. I give you all a couple of homework assignments tonight so let’s see if your paying attention.

Mobile Carriers are Throttling Video #1310 - Geek News Central

Geek News Central - Fri, 09/07/2018 - 01:28

Did not take to long for the mobile carriers to start throttling video from Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime. It appears throttling to be gaining steam as all pretense of net neutrality are gone. I am happy to be back in the studio. As always I have a pile of work that never seems to get caught up on but hey that’s the life of a business owner. Very thankful for the work and business. Some updates on the GoDaddy promotion on the show as well today.
